The Journey

Credit: George Natsioulis

She stands in the darkened station
A silhouetted shadow
A shadow of her past happy self

A hat on her head and a bag on her shoulders
Torn between the two choices in front of her
The choice to stay on

And the choice to move on.
A train speeds past her
Full of people
Full of lights
Full of hope.
It was her moment of awakening
As she takes a cue from the train
And chooses to leave behind her gloomy self
And set foot in a new world

That is full of light, hope and happiness
By embarking on a ride in a train
To wherever destiny takes her.
Her shoulders begin to relax
Her heart begins to beat slower
As she waits for the next train
to arrive
With a smile on her face
And a ticket in her hand
A ticket that promises her
A new journey
A new life
A new beginning.

  1. This poem was beautifully deep. I love how the train represented not only a new journey – but also a new start in life as she let go of past regrets. In just a single poem, I was completely transported into this girl’s mind and already started to feel sorry for whatever past troubles she had to face. Incredible. Thanks for sharing ❤
